Object: Canopy.
Materials: Mixed Wool.
Manufacture: freehand loop construction processes.
In June 2016 the Wool Week canopy was hung in The Colour Garden at The Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills. This vibrant knitted installation was produced using freehand loop construction processes. Since then a series of canopies have been constructed during co-design workshops across the country.
SHAPED. Canopies are knitted using freehand loop construction processes. They can be made in a range of 2D shapes and transform into 3D form under tension.
SUSTAINABLE. The canopies project represents a model of social sustainability. By learning through material processes, developing new skills and making together, the craft process of knitting develops community thinking through shared experiences.
